Bisexual Activists Use Google to Raise Awareness
'Google Bomb' Will Raise Awareness of the 'Mother of Pride'
A Google bomb is a way to influence the ranking of a given page in results returned by the Google search engine. Due to the way that Google's PageRank algorithm works, a page will be ranked higher if the sites that link to that page all use consistent anchor text. Sheeri Kritzer writes "Let's use a google bomb to educate folks about the fact that a bisexual woman was the 'mother of pride'. Brenda Howard, who we lost last year, deserves to be the FIRST item up on a google search for 'Stonewall.'" Brenda Howard (1946-2005) coordinated the rally to commemorate the 1-month anniversary of the Stonewall uprising, and then created the Rally and March that celebrated at the 1-year anniversary. This became the annual New York City Pride March which spawned all the other pride marches, festivals and celebrations around the world. In preparation for the 1993 March on Washington, she worked with other bi delegates and allies who actively lobbied and educated gay and lesbian delegates from around the country. They succeeded in having bisexual included in the title of the 1993 March on Washington for Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Equal Rights and Liberation. Howard was also an active member of the Leather community. Anyone with a website can participate simply by adding this link to their page: All you have to do is put a link to Brenda Howard's wikipedia listing with the description of 'Stonewall'. The HTML to do so is listed below: Stonewall The link should look like this: Stonewall
