Die Mommie Die!, the comedic revision of the 60s melodrama starring theater veteran Charles Busch, is coming to DVD
on June 29, 2004. The film, which premiered at the 2003 Sundance Film
Festival and was released as part of the 2004 Sundance Film Series, is
destined to become a cult classic.
Written by and starring Charles Busch, Die Mommie Die! was directed by
Mark Rucker and also stars Frances Conroy (³Six Feet Under"), Philip Baker
Hall (Magnolia), Natasha Lyonne (Slums Of Beverly Hills), Jason Priestley
(³Beverly Hills, 90210²), and Stark Sands (³Six Feet Under²). In a
performance that earned him the Special Jury Prize for Acting at the
2003 Sundance Film Festival, Busch stars as fallen pop diva Angela Arden, a
heroine in the grand tradition of Hollywoodıs formidable females: tough
yet tender, ruthless yet seductive, extremely warped yet oddly sympathetic.
Die Mommie Die! wittily evokes classic Hollywood genres, notably the ³womenıs
pictures² of the 1940-60s and the glossy suspense melodramas of the
1960s.
