Carols and Camp
Celebrate the Holidays with your local Gay Men's Chorus

For many LGBTI individuals, the Holidays can be a challenging time. Maybe you have to deal with relatives that in subtle (or not so subtle) ways, devalue your relationship. Maybe you still haven't come out to your grandmother. Maybe you have to leave the safety of a queer-friendly neighborhood and travel to one of the red states to be with family.

One way to make your Christmas a little more "jolly and gay" is to attend the Christmas Concert of your local Gay Men's Chorus. It's a great opportunity to start your own new holiday tradition that gives you a little added affirmation and support during the holidays.

Just about every major city in the US has a Gay Men's Chorus. If your city isn't featured on the list here, visit the GALA Choruses Website to find a Gay Men's Chorus near you.

Expect to hear a mixture of classical choral pieces as well as familiar holiday tunes. And of course, no Gay Men's Chorus performance would be complete without a little camp humor that is such a rich part of our tradition. The Gay Men's Chorus of Washington DC concert, fabYULEus!, for example, will include will combine the best of the beautiful holiday music performed over the last 24 years along with some of the wildest production numbers from previous memorable holiday concerts.

All of these concerts are perfect for the entire family, but if you have little ones, be sure to check out the matinee performances. The Los Angeles Gay Men's Chorus, for example, has a special Saturday matinee designed for families which includes a performance of the classic "Twas the Night Before Christmas".

So this holiday season, be sure to take care of yourself, and consider spending some time with your local Gay Men's Chorus. It may just be the perfect opportunity to connect with the local LGBTI Community when you need it most.
